Acupuncture is a medical system that has been used to diagnose, treat and prevent illness for over 2000 years. Acupuncture is the placement of extremely fine, hair-thin needles at precise points on the body that affect the bio-energetic system allowing increased energy and blood flow. Healthy energy and blood flow are necessary to nourish the organ systems. Healthy organ systems communicate effectively with each other throughout the body allowing optimal function and ease.
When your energy, blood flow, body fluids and organ systems become stressed from physical, mental and emotional trauma, poor diet, lifestyle, medications, hereditary conditions, environmental factors, and everyday life, function and ease can become malfunction, dis-ease and, eventually disease.
Acupuncture promotes the body’s ability to heal itself by addressing the root cause of a problem not just the obvious symptom. A simple way to think about this is to envision a plant. When the leaves turn brown it is a visible indication that something is wrong. You could apply some green paint and cover up the brown. This is similar to what happens when we take medications to “cover up” a symptom. You can also cut off the brown leaves. This is what we do when our organs become diseased, we remove them. Unfortunately, painting and cutting off the plant’s leaves will not address the true root cause of the problem….the plant needs water!
Our body is no different and, while it often makes sense to get relief from symptoms, the root cause must be eliminated in order to truly heal and avoid more serious and deeper problems. This root treatment is what acupuncture provides for our body.

The acupuncture meridian system runs through the body like rivers and streams through the land. Again, if we look to nature for an example of this function we can envision a tree (blockage) that has fallen into a stream or a river that is overflowing (excess) after a massive rainfall. Either of these will cause the flow of water to be interrupted, either too much or too little. This happens in the body when blocks or excesses interrupt the flow of energy or qi (pronounced chee). When the blocks are removed or the excess drained, proper energy flow is reinstated, the organ systems receive the nourishment they need to function optimally and the body can heal itself.
Our bodies are like gardens requiring a mixture of rich soil, proper moisture and sunlight, weed and insect control. These elements together produce an abundant flourishing harvest. Acupuncture treatment provides the balance and strength you need to fend off illness and repair any dis-ease already present.

Does acupuncture hurt?????!!!!
By far the most common question, concern about the needles is natural given our experiences with hypodermic injection-type needles. Needles that put fluid into the body or take it out need to be thick and hollow. Acupuncture needles do not transfer any fluid, are solid, and as thin as a few hairs.
The sensation ranges from nothing at all……..yes, nothing, to a slight sting or ache that disappears after insertion. After the needles are in place, patients rest comfortably.

How many treatments will I need?
An optimal treatment plan will be suggested after your health evaluation and exam are completed. Your treatment plan is based upon the degree of imbalances diagnosed and the length of the time the symptoms have been in place.
How long will it take to notice results?
Most patients report changes within 6-10 treatments. Allowing appropriate time for acupuncture to reach the root of your symptoms is important. Conditions that have been in place for longer periods may take longer to resolve.
Does insurance cover acupuncture?
Many insurance plans cover acupuncture treatment. Check with your insurance carrier and learn the specifics of your plan. Payment at the time of each visit is expected and any reimbursement from your insurance company will come directly to you.
How does it work?
The acupuncture meridian system runs through the body delivering energy to the organ systems. This flow can be interrupted by blockages or buildups. When the blocks are removed or the excess drained, healthy energy flow returns and the organ systems receive the nourishment they need to function optimally allowing the body to heal itself.
What about my medications and western medical treatment?
Even though Chinese and Western medicine are different, they complement each other. Combining the benefits of both, where appropriate, is recommended. Patients continue seeing their doctors and taking prescribed medications. Any changes are made with the approval of your physician.
